warp speed

Life is simply moving at that. Warp speed. I find myself at the end of the day going over everything that I still mean to do or finish and the list is overwhelming. I miss the cottage, I miss the silence that I find there. I love what I do, I am so fortunate to be able to make an income teaching an instrument that I enjoy – with students who really are just the best. But my introvert heart really, really misses absolute solitude.

So, what does a woman who needs more quiet in her life do? Start a new business of course. Along with my SIL who is my sewing hero, we will be making and selling tote style products locally. I’m trying to set up the business and with all of the hundreds of small details that that entails, I am loving the sewing part!

That is one of the reasons that Dorothy and Edward have been waiting months for their house to be built……

At least they can slam the tiny front door.

Oh. MY! Well, the beauty of sewing, is that it’s a solitary pursuit…and that’s much of its charm, for me…

Ahem. I treated my self to a new sewing machine last month. An ELNA LOTUS. The “new edition.” My Mom has an original 1970’s one, and it’s still going strong…

My elderly ELNA SUPERMATIC is very balky, and very old…unless I turn it on, and put a lamp (to help warm it) for several hours…

The new one? I’ve had it a couple of weeks, and have yet to test-drive (other than the lesson that I had at the shop). Having caught the latest vocal plague (I sound like a BULLFROG), I think I’ll take tomorrow morning off – and take LOTUS-2 for its inaugural spin…

    Warp-speed? I hear you!

    Hugs,

Hi Lisa Rea, how exciting to have a new machine, have fun with getting to know it.
Have you had the old machine serviced and thoroughly cleaned? My machine mechanic is second generation in the family business, he says the old Singer sewing machine oil was like heavy glue when it got old in the machine and caused all kinds of problems. The new Singer oil is now the best he can recommend, even better than Bernina oil, so coming from a Bernina based business that is high praise indeed.
You may end up with 2 awesome machines.

Your new sewing business is so exciting, Caroline! I love what you and your SIL are creating–especially the colors of the one pictured on top!

I think I would be right at home at your lake house. I am an introvert, too, and truly need that alone time to recharge my batteries, so to speak. Luckily, now that all my sons have grown and moved out, I do get a fair share of that time right here at home on the days that I’m not working 🙂

Wishing you all the best in your business! And a very Happy Valentine’s Day ♥♥♥

Wow, how wonderful that you get to spend time doing something that you enjoy so much with someone who is fun , inspiring and creative, I hope you can get it up and running well without too much drama.
If you find a shape and size that seems popular you can trim and personalize with the choice of fabric etc. Once you know what sells you can buy supplies in bulk and the production sequence will get faster, I love producing a series of articles like this as you learn and refine the design and process as you go…..sooooo exciting.
Can’t wait to see some samples.
