That time of year

This past week has not gone as planned. A rash of illness has plagued our house culminating with both John and I coming down with the stomach flu yesterday. I am at least out of bed today, but feel a bit woozy and in need of more rest. It is that time of year however, and is to be expected when the little ones bring it home. I also work with children and these things just happen.

On a happier note, I’ve had a very successful crafting week! I was able to finally complete my September Pillow, and I just love it. It’s found a home on our couch and looks just right. Squishy and cable-y goodness, it was a great pattern to knit. Details are on my Revelry link if you’re interested.

I’ve begun a new large scale cross stitch project, “His Eye is on the Sparrow” by Heartstring Samplery. This will be a stitch along project with a few friends on Instagram. I really debated on this sampler what to do with the verse. It is an Adam and Eve sampler, but I am not religious and I struggled with stitching something that wasn’t really me. I do however, love the tradition and history of stitching this style of sampler like many women and girls before me. So – since it’s Adam and Eve, I’ve chosen an Oscar Wilde quote to stitch where the verse is: “I can resist anything except temptation.” For me, it fits. To give some credit where it’s due, it was John’s idea to change the words – he listened to me go on and on about not knowing what to do and suggested choosing something secular. He also came with me to buy the fabric and was a very good sport the whole time. That’s true love.

Lastly, while at my LNS – just my most favourite place in the whole wide world, my coffee piece was finished being framed and was on display!

What a great crafting week, it almost makes up for having the flu. Almost.

Good to hear you are on the mend, I get impatient with being sick after the initial ‘just have to stay in bed ‘ wears off. It is a good idea to restore your gut health after such a bout, yogurt, ssft cheeses, fermented vegies etc. And lots of fibre when your tummy settles.
The coffee framing looks great, hope you find just the right place to hang it.
Spring is still struggling here, it was 4 yesterday morning but felt like 2 ….strange for this time of year, just as well the days are sunny and warm.
Changing the text on the new project was an inspired choice, not fun working on a big job if your heart isn’t in it.

So sorry to hear you’ve been ill, Caroline! That is one advantage to being an empty-nester, I suppose!! Frankly, I’m surprised that I’m not constantly sick with working with the public at the library–all those germ covered books, keyboards, library cards that I handle each day 🙂

I do love that blue pillow and think your decision to change the quote on the pillow is a wise one. That is a gorgeous sampler and I look forward to watching it grow. Your coffee piece looks great on display at your LNS (lucky you–my nearest is over an hour away and is not the best stocked!).

Hope you’re feeling better, and that you got some rest over the Thanksgiving weekend.

I cooked a turkey last weekend, and delivered half to a friend; this weekend was a selection of veggie dishes, heavy on the cheese – given the happy accident of arriving at the Western Fair market at 2:30 p.m., when the main centre stall was offering “7 items for $10!” And, not just ONE zucchini, but a quart basket of 3 or 4 (in addition to 6 OTHER items)! Yum!

    LOVE seeing your projects!

That sounds like a perfect quote for Adam and Eve. I hope you’re completely recovered by now and enjoying your stitching.
