yarn along day

I’ve started a new book – Donna Tartt’s The Secret History and am really liking it so far – vivid characters and good story writing that makes me wonder what will happen next.

Last Friday, I took the plunge and am finally learning how to knit socks. This has been on my to do list for a while, and a few weeks ago I happened to meet a lovely knitting teacher (kindred spirit) who agreed to come over and teach myself and a few friends how to do it. I’m hooked. In return, I may have supplied her with some new cross stitch designers to tempt her to grow her stitching stash…. .

On the stitching front, I’m almost finished the second design in the Frosty Forest series by CCN, and if you’ll excuse the poor photo, you can see it has some sweet deer to help keep the racoon in the first design company.

I hope to finish it up tonight.

Oh well done you for having a go at socks, they are my favorite, so cosy, don’t take much time and easy to take along. I divide my yarn into equal halves (50grms each sock ) and knit the socks nice and long so they are comfy with boots or can be doubled around my skinny ankles
I live in Queensland but on top of a mountain, so we do get cold in Winter, not often during the day but in the mornings and overnight can get to -2 and the wind is nasty…..our Summer is high twenties to mid thirties, so the cold is a bit of a shock to the system.
Looking forward to seeing your lovely socks finished and on your feet, my trick to get ahead with the second sock was to stop the first sock after the all the heel shaping and get started on the second, then you have easy knitting to get them finished.
I have 3 or 4 sets of needles so I have socks at different stages depending on where I am knitting, if I am flying or social knitting I take some that are on the easy parts but if I am home I work on the shaping.
Hope you are having fun with this new project, I started socks about 4 years ago and have done about 26 pairs, I have 6 and the rest have been for gifts, a few are cotton for bed socks .
Early on I did a pair toe up to see how much length I could get in the leg using nearly all the yarn of the 50 grms. Just wind off yarn until the digital scales read 50 grms left then you should have equal balls for each sock if you want to try the long length.

I love the color of your first sock! And your stitching for both projects is admirable! Soooo many books I have not read, including this one. You have piqued my curiosity 🙂 xx
