Oh Canada

Finally we have proper Canadian weather! This is my absolute favourite – beautiful and very conducive to warm, woolyย goodness, both the knitting and the wearing. The dogs approve and spend a lot of time tracking the resident bunny.

Knitting on Umaro continues – I’ve added almost another complete repeat, which if you know the pattern, has two rows of two needle cables which are a true challenge. Oscar enjoys the cozy indoor pleasures of winter and is a constant knitting/snuggle companion. I’m still chipping away at War and Peace and have added another Craftlit book – The Age of Innocence, read by Brenda Dayne (I could listen to her read the phone book.) It’s excellent. If I “knit like the wind”, perhaps I can finish up this blanket in time for my mum’s birthday in May. Since I gave her the yarn and chose the pattern with her last year for her birthday, I’d better get cracking…….

I’m trying hard to not start too many new things until some of my large projects are completed, but this Prairie Schooler Santa design was calling my name and I began it during our winter break. I’ll be stitching all 4 vertically on 32count linen and I’m using the charted DMC threads. I’ve heard that the designer behind the lovely PS charts is either retired or retiring so I’m trying to snap up the charts that I really like while I can.

I agree – I could listen to Brenda Dayne read anything. That blanket looks so cozy. Perfect for the snowy weather. I bought myself some cross stitch kits a couple of weeks ago and am anxious to see if my eyes are up to the task.

So you and I are very much alike, a variety of handiwork projects we love to do. Alas, sometimes I can’t decide which craft I would rather be doing! Love Oscar by sight alone.
Enjoy your winter snow. We are hoping snow will come our way tomorrow!!!!

  11. Jayne says:

I love Prairie Schooler designs! I am working, very slowly, on an Amish design by Told In The Garden at the moment. Love your snow – at least it is finally raining here in my part of Australia. I have War and Peace on my list for this year. I try to re-read at least one classic a year and haven’t read this one for ages.

  12. Lisa says:

Such cozy knitting for a cold, snowy day!!

  13. Gracie says:

I’m sorry you re-injured your knee, Caroline! I hope it heals quickly, but that you enjoy getting lots done on your stitching projects while you rest it. Your snow and your kitty are lovely ๐Ÿ™‚ xx

  14. Deborah says:

    Your projects are so pretty!

The snow is beautiful too. I’ll admit I’m already thinking spring sounds good.

  15. Becki says:

I’ve just spent a bit of time looking at back posts and oh, what beautiful things you make, Caroline. And so much patience you must have. I haven’t cross stitched in many years. Your pictures make me feel so nostalgic. :^)

  16. Your blanket is just the perfect knitting after a walk in the cold winter weather! Greetings from Finland where we’ve also finally been enjoying snow and -20’C real winter weather.

  17. Karen says:

I am super jealous of your snow!!!! Love the knitting and stitching ๐Ÿ™‚

  18. Tania says:

Oh I am so envious of your gorgeous snow. It looks like you live in a Winter Wonderland. How wonderful and very apt for your Christmassy embroidery projects. Your blanket will be perfect for keeping knees warm. In the UK the BBC are serializing War and Peace on the TV at the moment. I wonder if you might be able to catch it where you are? Have a lovely week

  19. Your knitting is coming along nicely and so is the cross stitch. We don’t have any snow, but a big rain storm is heading our way. It would probably be snow under a normal winter but it is so mild here in my part of Ontario. I’m loving this weather and not missing the snow at all.
