knitty knit knit

Monday night saw Nicholas felled by a nasty stomach flu that kept him home yesterday. I’m not feeling all that great this morning so have cancelled a few things which is always a little sad. Good old back to school germs, they are reliable and like clockwork.

I’m joining Ginny today in the yarn along – I do really enjoy scrolling through the other links there and seeing what everyone else is up to. It has certainly expanded my Ravelry wish list. I’m still plugging away with Umaro which is growing nicely. I’m reading a Stephen King novel, 11/22/63 which is enjoyable and if you like his style you’ll like this book.

I just love that knitting pattern. Are you finding it hard to follow?

    • caroline says:

It IS a fantastic pattern. I’m finding this one easier to follow than BT’s Topiary pattern which has a slightly longer stitch repeat. It did take me a bit to get used to the two cable needle thing but I’ve got it now and it will jest need time spent to get it done.

  2. Umaru looks lovely Caroline. I hope you manage to avoid the stomach bug. We have had snotty noses for months it seems. Pre-school germs. Drats.

I’m sorry illness has struck your house, too, Caroline. It’s taken my too-stubborn-to-be-sick husband down, in a hard way. Since Sunday night we’ve been to Urgent Care twice, and the second time they told us to go to the ER. That’s always a fun way to spend a Tuesday evening. On our way out the door to UC, I stuck a new knitting magazine, an audiobook, and needles and cotton yarn in my purse – just in case. By the time we got home after midnight last night, I had a completed dishcloth, a fully read magazine, and was further along in my audiobook. Had I known we were going to the ER, I would have packed SO differently. Thankfully it appears he’s turning a corner, no hospitalization needed (needed a CT scan to rule that out), and now I’m standing in my house today shaking my head to clear it of medical debris and the surreal feeling one gets when one spends any amount of time in hospital. I *want* to sit and knit and let my mind re-set, but I need to address bills that haven’t been attended to as well as start organizing all of the medical paperwork we’ve been accumulating. We just found out that we are eligible to be reimbursed for all of my and our oldest son’s acupuncture visits, and that is well over $1,000 right there. There are also vision exam reimbursements we need to send in for, and now all of his prescriptions (co-pays alone over $200 since Sunday). So, my time this afternoon is worth over $1,500. I think this may be the most I’ve ever ‘made’ in a day as a homemaker. 😉

Probably far more than you wanted to know, so I’ll let the rest lie. Take it easy and feel better, and enjoy your knitty time. I have far too little of it right now. I hope your little one feels better soon!

Your poor DH! I’m so glad to hear that he’s getting better, and wow! You got so much accomplished while you “waited”! Good luck with all of your paperwork – important work indeed!

so sorry about the stomach thing…you are right…school, germs, not much you can do about them. hopefully it’s only a 24 hour thing and all will be feeling better real soon.

this is sort of funny….i glanced at your project and thought, I MUST MAKE THAT ONE!!! Love it. Love it. Love it. Umaro…I DID make it, only mine was in charcoal, and it really looks different in brown!!!! Does that mean I must make another??!! hee hee!!!

    • caroline says:

HAHA!!! Yes – you must make another one! That is hilarious because this one is for my mother and I want one in CHARCOAL!!! So I need to make another one after I finish this one!

  7. That is just beautiful. I really like the colour you have chosen because of the way it shows off the pattern.

  8. Lisa says:

Like Steph, I’m thinking an Umaro is in my future… 🙂
Sorry about the ickies and hope your son is feeling better quick!

  9. Debbie says:

ooooooh that is so beautiful. i love the pattern but i think that might be too advanced for me!!!!

    • caroline says:

I’m sure you could do it! There’s a tricky double cable every 7 rows, but I read a few tricks from other people who had knit it and just gave it a try. 🙂

That stitch pattern is gorgeous and I love the colour.

I am so behind on my blog reading which sucks, but it’s so fun to visit and see a bunch of posts!!! It’s like Christmas! YAY!

Hope that everyone is recovered by now. Is that Stephen King book new? I didn’t even know that he was still writing! So behind the times.

    • caroline says:

The book was published in 2011, and he’s still very much writing 🙂 I’m also totally behind in everything. We don’t watch regular TV so I NEVER know any of the movies that are out. Except for Star Wars – Nicholas is counting the days until that one comes out….. 🙂
