a knitting crisis averted!

Last night I was happily knitting away while Sarah was in her youth orchestra rehearsal.ย I’ll never understand people who get impatient whilst having to wait. To have three hours to myself with a giant coffee and listening to music with a lapful of knitting? That is my definition ofย absolute bliss. I’m looking forward to more Monday night rehearsals! However, next week I’ll bring a project that requires zero concentration.

Behold:

The next four stitches to come should have been purled the row before and were shouting at me, “YOU CAN”T IGNORE THESE – IF YOU LEAVE THIS MISTAKE IT WILL BOTHER YOU FOREVER AND EVER………….”

Anyone who has knit the full size BT Umaro pattern knows that it’s just about a billion stitches per row and the thought of unpicking it made me want to weep. Google to the rescue, because surely there was a way to fix it without unpicking it?? There was, and a Youtube video has set me back on track in about 5 minutes. The video is at the top, you may want to bookmark it – it was a genius little crochet hook hack that turned my frown upside down.

Edited to add….. I’ve just gotten to the end of the row and discovered that I transposed the pattern repeat over by 6 stitches and didn’t notice so now I have to unpick the whole row anyway.

Sorry you have to unpick the row anyway, BUT .. how cool that you learned a new trick! Yay YouTube!

    Psst, Umaro is looking great!

That crochet hook trick is absolutely invaluable; YouTube is a wonderful place for knitters these days! Umaro is gorgeous. It’s in my favorites and maybe some day I’ll get to it!

glad you caught it in time! I’d rather undo one row than ten ๐Ÿ™‚ Lovely yarn and knitting!

OH NO!!! Not being a knitter, I have NO IDEA what you just wrote, but it sounds bad! ๐Ÿ™‚

And agreed on the waiting for children’s activities thing! I was so sad when my son quit karate, because it was the best warm, comfortable, well lit space to cross stitch. Soccer fields are not as conducive to cross stitching. Children should be more considerate to their Moms when selecting extracurriculars. ๐Ÿ˜‰

There are these wonderful little toys for sale at local yarn shops call “Fix-A-Stitches”. They are even easier to fix a stitch with than a crochet hook. They come in a lace weight and a set of 3 for normal knitting. Having made a minor (read that major) error in seed stitch and not noticing it for a few rows. (I got off in the middle of a 100 stitch project for about 20 stitches. I happened to notice a few rows later). It was relatively easy to fix with this toy. If you get a chance you might ask for it at your lys. Good luck with your project.
